No matter what CPU you have, you need to get the antivirus software for the team. He did not know Norton, but. You can use free programs like Avira, Avast or AVG. The laptop will probably be very good for a child of 7 years if they do not play and walk the job, or just. It is a core team and not for games, movies, or these things.

Not for the purchase of Norton ... and yes, 512 MB RAM is sufficient if you are not running Windows Vista.
Well, here are 10 free programs that I think you need:

1) Open Office Suite - Free
2) AVG Anti-Virus 8.0 - Free
3) SUPER Anti Spyware - Free
4) Firefox 3.0 - Free
5) Foxit Reader - Free
6) 7-Zip - Free
7) Foxit PDF Editor - Free
8) iTunes - Free
9) GIMP - Free
10) VLC media player - Free
